Activate A Product on Steam Activate A Product on Steam (1/1) MrHat: How exactly does this work? I have my Civ 4 disc laying around, but can't find the installation disc. If I have the cd-key, can I register it on Steam, then DL the client? NiX: Theoretically that's how it should work. Though I have no idea if it's retro for non-Valve games.

Schild: Quote What is a CD key and where can I find it? The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.

The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account. Which retail CD Keys are accepted on Steam? All retail Valve games and a number of third-party games can be registered to your Steam account. All of the following games can be registered through Steam.

Mine stopped working with that error too since redoing Steam. I deleted Registry keys on it too and reinstalled.same error.or Failed to find Steam error which can be fixable. Then restart Steam and try the games again.'

Thats not the problem, its annoying that everyone keeps saying that. I have emailed techland many times and get the same response or to go into regirsty and manually enter the cd key. Which is stupid because its already there. Steam already does it for you when u install it. Its a server problem on techlands behalf, its not verifiying any of the CD keys when u buy the game through steam, simple. Well it wasent all by itself I guess, that mine worked. What I did was to install a copy of XPand Rally that was NOT Steam, and typing in the key (I had the game boxed which I used years ago, but it didnt work on Win7) It still didnt work on my Win7 system, but when I tried the Steam version afterwords, IT WORKED - so I guess its the regestry key that made the steam version work, because when I tried to delete the folder with the non-steam version it said I COULDNT as it was open in another program - until I closed Steam.

Then it would delete, but by then I decided that it was probably this version that made the Steam version work, so I left the prorgram and only deleted the desktop shortcut. Harddisk space is cheap and the game is small. BTW, I wrote to Techland, and got the word back that I needed to insert the key manually, and start the game by rightclicking and choosing run as admin. But of course you cannot insert the key manually on Steam versions, so apperantly they didnt know what the heck I was talking about.

But they sent me a key for both GTI and XPand rally, so if you can find an XPand rally version s-o-m-e-w-h-e-r-e and install (and remember you PAID for your steam version) then mail to Techland with the problem and you can probably get a key from them that makes it all legal and fine as dandy. OR - perhaps STEAM can help sorting this rediculous problem out - Please. My GTI Racing works well! I work VERY hard to try to make EVERY GAME I ever bought from Windows 98 on one way or another as I like to collect them and look at the fine Art I see these games as. I do not expect to play Xpand Rally much but like to run old games at the HIGHEST resolutions and settings years late to see how they should be seen. I think Steam should make it right as they probably messed up something.

Hard to jump through the hoops to get a REAL Tech Support on a no profit old game. But.it can be done.not now for me. I just lost my full 1445 GB install of Games on Windows 8 because of a dying Hard Drive AND a Power company power spike that blasted my Old Motherboard and the Windows Recovery backup HD.even with a giant Battery Back up and all its Spike Protection.
